Welcome to online course Putting on the Glitz and let me welcome our guest tutor Mary McIntosh. She’s been teaching textiles for many years now and is well-known textile artist.
In this online video course, you will learn 4 different ways to add a glitz to your work. From the sheen of metallic paints or translucent organza to a proper bling of trans-foils and glitter films.
Below is the list of the lessons, each step of the construction has it’s own lesson with a video (or several videos) – this way it will be easy for you to follow along – watch, proceed with the step while it’s fresh in your head and easily come back to your next lesson.

1 Equipment
2 First layer – paint
The first layer will be adding a paint – from cheap acrylic to bit more expensive fabric paints – Mary will explain the difference and how to work with them.
3 Second layer – Bonded sheers
Lovely translucency can be added by bonding down some sheer fabrics like organza.
4 Third layer – Transfoil
The best shine is achieved by using a Transfoils – very shiny layer adding the proper glitz.
5 Fourth layer – Glitter film
Unusual product – glitter film – is our last addition of a glittery layer.
6 Quilting
Let’s have a look at all the different threads and ways how to enhance our leafy project with a stitch.
7 Making and adding the cord
To add a bit more texture and dimension, we will create a shiny cord to use as the vine for our leaves.
8 Finishing touches
It’s time to finish our hanging with a backing and edge finishes.
9 Inspration
Mary has made two more project using all the techniques you have just learned and she will show you some details of them to inspire you.
