You will have few designs to choose from for your stained glass project or I’m happy to guide you through your own idea you have seen and fell in love with.
There are many ways how you can create the look of stained glass when using fabric as your medium. We will be working with quite a simple method of using bondaweb to hold our “pieces of glass” down and then we will use specially made tape to create the effect of Stained glass.
For any design:
1/4” black bias tape for Stained glass design (unless you’d like to use other colour – feel free)
40”/1m of bondaweb (17”/44cm wide )
Pencil and black marker (Sharpie)
Black thread or the colour of your bias tape
Scissors, usual sewing kit
Sewing machine ( leave in car in case we get as far as needing it)
For Rose design with a bud:
ROSES: 3 Fat eighths of plain-ish fabric
BACKGROUND: 2 Fat quarters of plain-ish fabric (preferably two shades of the same colour)
LEAVES: 1 Fat eight
CONTRAST: 1 Fat eight
5” strip of the width for binding
23” x 30” Piece of light coloured fabric
23” x 30” Piece of wadding
23” x 30” Piece of backing
For hanging with 3 roses:
3 Fat eights of plain-ish fabric (for roses)
4 Fat eights of plain-ish fabric (for background)
3” strip of the width for binding
18” x 25” Piece of light coloured fabric
18” x 25” Piece of wadding
18” x 25” Piece of backing
For abstract cushion:
8 Fat Quarters
14” x 32” (35 x 80 cm) for the back of the cushion
13” x 25” Piece of light coloured fabric
To create your own design:
In the size of your finished design (little larger) – sheet of paper, wadding, backing and fabric light in colour, so that we can trace the design, can be quite thin fabric like an old sheet or calico will be great.
Selection of fabrics – from offcuts to fat quarters, in colours you’d like to work in, about 10-15 different colours matching and contrasting.
