Do you have that beautiful fabric which is just too precious to cut into? Ombre fabrics or hand-dyed work best for this project where we use bondaweb appliqué to bring a black design on top of your fabric for wonderful silhouettes effect. More designs available.
We are still trying to maintain a degree of social distancing so are only having 10 students per class. The class still costs £42, to secure your place you can now only pay a deposit and we will collect the remaining £32 on the day.

We will use simple Bondaweb applique and I will demonstrate to you several different finishing methods. You will have the choice of turning your piece into a wall hanging or a cushion and I will show how to finish those as well.

This technique uses dark (most commonly black) fabric to create a silhouette of design and pretty fabric in the background to contrast with the black and create some interest.
You can make cushion or wall hanging as small or as big as you’d like, I’ll guide you through the process.
I will have the design of the three whimsical owls, the single owl or buddha for you to use, or you can bring a picture of a design of your choice.
Choose of these:
Whimsical owls – Long cushion:
25” x 13” of background fabric, black fabric, bondaweb and wadding.
Single owl – Wall hanging:
Fat quarter of background fabric, black fabric, bondaweb and wadding
Buddha head – wall-hanging
40x110cm (16″x44″) of background fabric, wadding and backing
Your own design:
Chose your desired size for your project and prepare sheet of paper, background fabric, black fabric, bondaweb and wadding in that size.
Also bring pins, scissors, black threads or thread matching your background fabric, machine and other sewing accessories.
Cancellation with 2 weeks notice – we will refund your payment or offer you a place on a future workshop.
Cancellations within 13 – 8 days of the workshop – we will refund 50% of the payment.
Last-minute cancellations, ie. 7 days or less before a workshop – we’re afraid we cannot refund any payments as from experience we’ve found it impossible to fill places at such short notice.
Full refund for cancellation under 14 days possible if we replace you. Thank you for understanding with these formalities.
A requirement list can be found in the previous tab. The cost of supplies and fabrics are not included in the cost of the workshop unless stated. If you purchase your supplies for the workshop at OliVen you will receive 5% discount.
A sewing machine or overlocker can be hired in the shop for £5 a day – subject to availability.
