18/6 Fabric and crochet blanket

£10.00

Friday 18th June 10-4 pm  £42

Simple squares joined together by crochet – perfect project for long winter evenings. Straight stitch on the machine and couple of different crochet stitches multiply by as many as you feel like. The smallest project is a cushion but you can take it as far as you’d like.

To keep the guidelines of social distancing we can now only have 8 students per class. The class still costs £42, to secure your place you can now only pay a deposit and we will be in touch closer to date to confirm that it’s safe to run the class and to require the remaining £32.

Description

In this class we will teach you how to make the individual blocks for the blanket, but as it’s mostly hand sewing and crochet the production of the blanket will take some time. We will aim to make around 4 blocks on the day and learn how to join them together as well. You can then make your blanket as big or as little as you want. Or you can just turn your 4 blocks into a cushion.

We will be using only a couple of crochet stitches, so it’s suitable for those new to crochet as well as experienced crocheters.

Requirements

In this class we will teach you how to make the individual blocks for the blanket, but as it’s mostly hand sewing and crochet the production of the blanket will take some time. We will aim to make around 4 blocks on the day and learn how to join them together as well. You can then make your blanket as big or as little as you want. Or just get a taste of the technique by making a cushion.

For the cushion only you will need:

1 fat quarter for the blocks ( cut into eight 5” squares) Four 5” squares of wadding
40 cm of background fabric
1 ball of 3 or 4-ply yarn

1 ball of Perle cotton in matching the colour to your yarn

For the blanket: finished size: 110 x 155 cm or 44” x 62”

Fabric for the front 125 cm / 50”
Fabric for the back 125 cm / 50”
Or you can use charm pack and have the front from a lot of different colours – you need 70 squares for the front and the same for the back)
Seventy 5” squares of wadding
10 balls of fine 3-ply or 4-ply yarn – I used cotton
4 balls of Perle cotton in matching colour to your yarn

For both projects:

Sewing machine,
Threads matching your top and bottom fabric

Scissors
Chenille needle, thimble
Crochet hook (3 or 3,5 mm for 3-ply, 3.5 or 4 for 4-ply)

We recommend using cotton or bamboo yarns, acrylic don’t look very good as they fluff up and loose the crochet stitches. We used cotton Anchor Sage Creativa Fino 4ply Yarn.
